Research units 

Ionizing radiation EPIDemiology Laboratory (Lepid) 

The ionizing radiation EPIDemiology Laboratory, or LEPID, forms part of the IRSN, and it is located at Fontenay-aux-Roses, in the Paris region. Managed by Dominique Laurier, it comprises 11 personnel.


Missions


Created in 1991, its mission is:

 

  • To carry out epidemiological studies on the effects of low doses of ionizing radiation in France (French uranium miners, CEA and COGEMA workers, risk of lung cancer associated with domestic exposure to radon), and within the framework of international collaboration (European projects on the effects of radon, assessment of the consequences of Chernobyl, study of the leukaemia risk for residents along the Techa river in the Urals, etc.),
  • To assess and model the effects of radiation on a population,
  • To provide assistance to organizations requesting its expert assistance in epidemiology in France (InVS, ASN, DGS) and internationally (UNSCAER, European Union, CIPR).
