Simulation of the human impact of radioactive contamination in the environment
The team has been involved for several years in the SYMBIOSE project, financed jointly by the IRSN and EDF.
SYMBIOSE is a platform for simulating the transfer of radionuclides within ecosystems and for calculating the dosimetric impact on humans. The code models the evolution in time and space of the behaviour of radionuclides discharged into watercourses or the atmosphere within the main systems comprising a continental environment, and to evaluate the doses and dose rates to which human populations are exposed.
This tool is intended to support radiological risk assessment analyses across a broad range of topics, including the normal or accident operation of nuclear installations, the decommissioning of installations, and the safety assessment of waste repositories.
Symbiose V2.0 was delivered in early January 2012. This version permits to stock parametrical uncertainties forecasts, thanks of random simulations.
