Summary

This thesis addresses the development of fractional-step schemes for solving unstationnary Navier-Stokes equations.
Starting from the wellknown projection method introduced by Chorin and Teman, we introduce an original pression-correction algorithm, called penalty-projection method; its specificity lies in the addition of a penalisation term in the prediction step, built to enforce the mass balance constraint.
This scheme is shown to drastically enhance the accuracy of existing projection methods, through some analysis results and an extensive  numerical study; both incompressible and dilatable flows are dealt with.
Finally we assess the potentialities brought by the use of mortar finite element methods in these fractional step schemes; two applications are shown, the first one for local refinement, the second one to solve a multi-physics problem.
