Summary

The radon inhalation is the principal source of populations irradiation. At the dawn of a new regulation, the best specialists of the radon in France, give the different properties of this gas in order to allow to the non advertised populations to appreciate the risks. This work explains the origin, the formation of this radioactive gas, how is it detected, its behaviour in atmosphere and habitations. A cartography of the radon concentration is given where it is possible to see the differences between the regions. The question of risks is also approached even if it difficult to estimate because it comes from extrapolation. Finally, the reader will find simple methods to reduce irradiation by radon in our habitations.
