Summary

The objective of this study is to propose a multiscale modelling of ductile damage in highly irradiated uranium dioxides. Two populations of saturated cavities are present at different scales in these polycrystalline materials. At the smallest scale, the voids are intraganular and have a spherical shape . At a larger scale, elongated spheroidal voids are formed at grain boundaries. The first population of cavities is taken into account at the grain level by means of a Gurson-like model. Therefore the second scale transition concerns a Gurson matrix containing randomly oriented spheroidal cavities and an effective yield criterion is proposed. The pore pressures are taken into account. The final coalescence of the intergranular voids is studied by way of numerical simulations with cohesive zones and Voronoï cells.
