Summary

The simulation of a control rod withdrawal accident in a fast breeder reactor was performed in the CABRI international experimental program by submitting irradiated industrial fuel pins to slow power ramps starting from nominal power conditions. Upward and downward coolant expulsions occurred after failure of the test pin. The violence of these expulsions is characterized by the mechanical power released to the coolant slugs. In this paper, the mechanical energy released during the last slow power ramp CABRI experiments with clad failure are analysed.
