This paper presents an experimental study on the behaviour of the burning rate of TPH (Tetra-Propylene Hydrogenated) pool fires in forced ventilated compartments within the framework of fire research activities at the French Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire. Based on full-scale pool fire experiments, the present paper provides new information required to improve the understanding of burning rate mechanisms in compartments. It offers detailed experimental data on the TPH pool fire burning rate used as input conditions for numerical simulations with zone codes. Firstly, analysis focuses on the behaviour of the burning rate in a free atmosphere for three pool areas (0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 m2). Secondly, a similar study is performed for the same pool fire located in a ventilated compartment. Analysis also investigates the different mechanisms that contribute to modifying the burning rate in compartments, essentially the oxygen concentration and the ventilation layout.
