Potential of Hybrid Computational Phantoms for Retrospective Heart Dosimetry After Breast Radiation Therapy : A Feasibility Study

International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics / Volume 85, issue 2, 1st February 2013, pages 492-499.

Summary

Retrospective cardiovascular dosimetry studies after radiation therapy are based on a representative patient or simple mathematic phantoms. Computational phantoms can be built to fit the patient anatomy, and a detailed heart model with coronary arteries can be included in the phantom. When the available anatomic information is scarce, it is suggested that computational phantoms improve the accuracy of retrospective dose calculation. The detailed heart model eliminates the problem of identifying coronaries on the patient CT.
