Summary

To fulfil its tasks of continuous monitoring in the field of radiological protection and of consolidating and processing results from occupational exposures measurements for statistical purposes (tasks conferred by decrees), the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) produces an annual evaluation of the exposure of workers to ionizing radiation (www.irsn.org). For the time being this analysis is done on the basis of the statistics transmitted to the IRSN by the various laboratories in charge of monitoring of external exposure. In 2005, 273,886 workers (total monitored workforce) received a collective dose of 64.79 man.Sv. The annual average individual dose for all monitored workers was 0.24 mSv and the annual average individual dose for monitored workers recording a dose higherthan the dosimeter recording threshold was 1.85 mSv. Only 14,659 workers recorded an annual individual dose higher than 1 mSv (5.4% of the total workforce monitored). 40 workers recorded an annual individual dose higher than 20 mSv and among them, 7 workers recorded an annual individual dose higherthan 50 mSv.
