Thermodynamic characteristics of a water steam-air mixture in a large enclosure with wall condensation.

Summary

During the course of a hypothetical severe Pressure Water Reactor accident, hydrogen can be produced by the reactor core oxidation and distributed into the reactor containment according to convection flows and wall condensation. In order to assess the risk of detonation generated by a high local hydrogen concentration, hydrogen distribution in the containment has to be known. The TOSQAN experimental program has been created to simulate accidental thermal hydraulic flow conditions in the reactor containment and to study different phenomena such as wall condensation in the presence of non condensable gases. The objective of this poster is to present the thermodynamic characteristics obtained during condensation experiments in the TOSQAN large enclosure. Numerical calculations are also used to help the understanding of the experiments.
