Caution: The first steps towards radiation protection

This film tells the story of the radiation protection from the discovery of X-rays and radioactivity at the end of the 19th century until today.

Radiation protection was gradually built up on the principle of limiting the exposure time right up until 1950. This helped avoid deterministic effects, which appeared without fail above a specific threshold of exposure. The second half of the 20th century saw marked by a principle of caution, which implied using radiation only if it was beneficial, while maintaining exposure levels as low as reasonably possible.
