A mine-by-test has been performed in the IRSN experimental site in the Tournemire argillite, during the excavation of a new gallery in 2003. Thanks to the various measurements ofpore pressure and displacements then recorded, it has been possible to identify by inverse analysis, the in situ hydro-mechanical properties of the rock mass. The use of the convergence-confinement method enables to reproduce the main tendencies of most of the recorded measurements. In addition, viscoplastic calculations have been run in order to appraise the origin ofthe delayed response ofthe rock mass.
