Three main fields of activity: radiological protection instrumentation assessment, standardization and appraisal.
Radiological protection instrumentation assessment: This mainly consists of assessing an instrument's ability to perform its function, by verifying its compliance with respect to predefined baselines, generally based on standards established by the IEC, ISO or AFNOR.
If the instrument complies with all the requirements of applicable standards, the CTHIR then issues the corresponding certificate of approval.
This assessment covers all aspects of radiological protection: dosimetry, contamination, criticality, etc.
The CTHIR plays an active role in standardization work for radiological protection instrumentation. It participates in four IEC work groups (SC 45 B) and in the French task force in charge of transposing SC 45 B standards to CENELEC standards.
The CTHIR center also contributes to technical support provided by the IRSN (studies and appraisal).
