The aim of this paper, is to study the behavior of a rectangular pool or a tank, the walls of which are made with reinforced concrete, when an explosive located inside the pool is detonated. For that purpose, a specific software based on method of images has been developed and validated through comparisons with 3D calculations. The influences of several parameters like the size of the pool, the kind and amount of explosive, the vertical and horizontal position of the charge, the free surface have been investigated. Then for a given geometry of the pool and a quantity of explosive, the location of the explosive charge leading to the maximal load on the pool walls have been searched in order to determine the dynamic response of the structure. These results may be used to design reduced-scale mock-ups to perform tests.
