Radiotherapy professionals facing the challenge to improve treatment safety
46th International SELF ("Société d'ergonomie de langue française") Congress / 14th-16th September 2011, Paris (France)
In the scope of hospital reform and as a result of accidents that occured in Epinal and Toulouse, radiotherapy regulation has become more rigorous. Professionals have been forced to offer a variety of progress measures in consideration of patients' safety. The IRSN study conducted in five radiotherapy departments, with institutional players and representatives of professionels, aims to assess the effects of these measures that are bases essentially on quality processes (HAS certification, ARH authorisation, ASN quality reference list), an active equipment renewal policy and organisational changes, have led to an improvement in treatment safety both in establishments and in treatment processes. Nevertheless, a number of difficulties are likely to limit the effects of the improvements brought about by these new safety rules and to compromise its maintenance over time.
