By awarding a prize for a joint publication by young engineers from TSOs in the European network ETSON, the
ETSON Award 2015 seek to encourage them not only to develop their capacity for innovation, but also and above all to take a collaborative approach to projects.
Application deadline for the ETSON Award and Submission of the abstract is 30 April 2015. The winners will be presented at the EUROSAFE Forum on 2nd and 3rd November 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. This year, engineers from TSOs and authorities that are members of EUROSAFE may also participate in the competition, as long as one of the co-authors belongs to one of the ETSON member organizations.
All candidates should have less than 35 years and should practice in ETSON activities: nuclear safety assessment or research, radiation protection, waste management or security of nuclear installations. The paper should contribute to progress in understanding or in developing one of the above topics. The project should be original and innovative.
The philosophy behind the prize is similar to that of ETSON’s Junior Staff Program: to contribute to the harmonization of technical approaches and practices for nuclear safety across Europe by getting young engineers accustomed to participating in collaborative projects within the network, from the very beginning of their careers.
The first ETSON Award went to Ari Vepsä (from the Finnish TSO VTT) and Christian Heckötter (from German TSO GRS), for their joint paper entitled “Experimental Investigation and Numerical Analyses of Reinforced Concrete Structures Subjected to External Missile Impact”, for which they received a prize of 2 500 €.
