In 1997, the French Ministry of Environment and Health commissioned a detailed radioecological analysis in thé Nord-Cotentin region in response to public concem about radiological health risks associated with local nuclear facilities. This work was entrusted to thé Groupe Radioécologie NordCotentin (GRNC), a working group of experts from various backgrounds (facility operators, public institutions, monitoring agencies, public interest and citizens groups, as well as from abroad).

After the publication of its report in 1999, thé GRNC was commissioned again to perform a corresponding assessment on thé chemical releases of thé local nuclear facilities. This second stage is now achieved. This paper describes thé development of thé whole health risk assessment methodology followed by the GRNC and the results obtained.
