Both Tritium and Carbon 14 occur naturally in the environment. In the mid-1950s and early 1960s, they were widely dispersed during the above-ground testing of nuclear weapons. Their activity has been decreasing ever since. Nowadays, in France, large amounts of these radionuclides are released by nuclear facilities.
