Concrete is a material commonly encountered in nuclear plants. Its characteristics of reflector material led the criticality specialists to study the variation of its neutronic properties against its water amount and/or its composition. In the following paper, we more particularly examine the variation of the necessary concrete thickness, to have an equivalence with a water reflection in contact, against the distance between the fissile material and the reflector, for various simple geometries. We consider some fissile materials essentially encountered in laboratories and plants of the nuclear fuel cycle. Examples are presented, where the steel of the vessels is taken into account.
