The Environment and Chemistry Experimental Research Laboratory (L2EC) is located at Cadarache, in the Bouches du Rhône department. This laboratory is managed by Christian Mun.
Summary
Context and research themes
The general mission of L2EC is the experimental study of the various phenomena and mechanisms influencing transfer of radioactive products in accident situations, with the aim of quantitative and qualitative assessment, consistent with the accuracy required for safety studies, on radioactive product discharge in the environment during an accident occurring in a nuclear reactor.
Research axes
Within this framework, L2EC:
- Defines, within its field of competence and together notably with Semic, the experimental programs that can be performed in its installations and meet the knowledge acquisition requirements;
- Defines the corresponding means, organizes the development or acquisition of the necessary skills, and acquires the experimental means by calling on the skills of Serem with regard to engineering;
- Prepares tests with support, in particular, from SEMIC for provisional calculations, performs the tests, formats (physical magnitudes produced) and analyzes the results (in particular, uncertainty related to measurements, and understanding of observed phenomena), and writes the experimental reports;
- Produces and updates experimental databases related to the tests it performs;
- Maintains the installations it uses in safe and operational condition;
- Contributes, in liaison with SEMIC in particular, to production of the knowledge summaries intended for assessing safety and proposing research programs with the aim of improving the knowledge necessary for this assessment;
- Exploits its skills and test means by providing services;
- Maintains and develops skills in the technical and scientific disciplines necessary for performance of its mission.
