All living beings are exposed to natural, and sometimes artificial, radioactivity. The radiation doses are very low, but absorbed regularly over decades. Evaluating the effects of this chronic exposure involves a very complicated process. It is nevertheless essential in order to adapt in the best possible way the policies for prevention and protection of exposed populations. Hence the launch of new research programs over the last few years, in particular by IRSN.
