Epicur Facility and Test Device


The test device is composed of :

  • A panoramic gamma-ray irradiator (6 sources of 60Co delivering an average irradiation dose rate of 2.5 kGy.h-1) to simulate the effect of radiation associated with the presence of radioactive products in the reactor containment during an accident.
  • A test loop equipped with:
  1. A 5 L irradiation tank irradiated by 60Co sources to simulate the reactor containment and its various components (sump, painted surfaces in air or underwater, etc.). The tank temperature is controlled between 20°C and 120°C, the pressure between 1.2 and 8 bar, and different sweeping gases with controlled moisture contents can be injected into the tank.
    ● A selective fi lter system to qualitatively measure 131I by gamma spectrometry using NaI probes on-line or after testing. This iodine is measured in different forms: aerosols, molecular I2, or organic radioiodine (RI).
