Dietary uptake, retention and tissue distribution of 54Mn, 60Co and 137Cs in the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mikiss Walbaum)

J.P. BAUDIN, C. ADAM, J. GARNIER-LAPLACE Water. Research.(2000). 34(11), 2869-2878

Summary

The theoretical values of the steady state trophic transfer factor, expressed on a wet weight basis in trout, are 0.0766 for 54Mn, 0.0777 for 6OCo and 1.45 for 137Cs. The two corresponding halflives of the depuration kinetics for these elements are 8 and 1120 days, 4 and 170 days and 11 and 940 days, respectively. At the end of the uptake phase, the highest concentrations of 54Mn were found in the liver, 60Co in the kidneys and 137 Cs in the digestive tract. After 73 days of depuration, the highest concentrations of 54Mn were detected in the fins, 6OCo in the kidneys and 137 Cs in the muscles. In general, 54Mn was concentrated in the bony and cartilaginous tissues, 60Co in skin, head, bone and muscle and 137 Cs in muscle.
