Trace metal and radionuclides fluxes in the River Rhône and inputs to the Gulf of Lions

Congress title :4ème journée thématique de la ZABR - Les flux de polluants dans le bassin du Rhône
Congress town :Valence (26)
Congress date :31/01/2008

Summary

Between 2001 and 2003, many chemical elements were measured on the particulate and dissolved phases of Rhône within 2 research programs: the SORA Observatory and the National Programme for Coastal Environment (PNEC). The data obtained cover all flow rates from low flows to major floods in 2002 and 2003, and thus to have an overall view of the transfer of these elements in the Rhone. In parallel with this work (2002-2004), has led the IRSN work to clarify the origin and nature of radioactive fluxes exported by the Rhone to the marine environment. This study was made possible by the operation of the station observatory Rhone at Arles (SORA) still in operation. Several metals and radionuclides have been followed in these two programms and a summary of the results are presented here. The results are described in more details by Ollivier (2006) and Rolland (2006).
