Summary

An adimensional model was developed in order to determine the value of the pressure drop across clean pleated filters according to the type of filtering medium, the geometric characteristics of the pleating and the aeraulic parameters. This model derives from experimental and numerical code ( code CFX) results obtained by taking as reference filters of nuclear and automotive air types, respectively High Efficiency Particulate Air filters (HEPA) and Low Efficiency particulate air filters (LE). The most signifiant results concern, firstly, a more homogeneous air flow distribution over the surface of the pleated HEPA filter. In addition, we note a grat influence of the geometric characteristics (distance between two pleats, height of pleats) of the automotive filters on initial pressure drop. The numerical model highlights the fundamental part plyed by the filtering medium aeraulic resistance on the air flows distribution. This work has been done with the collaboration of FILTRAUTO.
