The French Act on energy transition for green growth adopted in 2015 requires IRSN to make public its assessments relative to nuclear safety and radiation protection. In 2009, IRSN and the French nuclear safety authority (ASN) initiated a process whereby they would simultaneously publish major assessments.
IRSN conducts expert assessments for the benefit of public authorities. The assessment reports present IRSN’s position upon completing its scientific and technical examination relative to risk assessment and management. They are usually accompanied by recommendations and the associated ASN opinions.
Available on IRSN website (in French), publication of these reports is in line with the Institute’s policy to improve transparency. The aim is to inform the public of the issues involved in a subject or case related to safety and radiation protection, and make IRSN’s analysis and conclusions available to the public.
In 2009, IRSN and ASN initiated a process whereby they would simultaneously publish major assessment reports rendered by IRSN and the associated ASN opinions. This process has now been extended pursuant to the Act on energy transition for green growth as long as the assessment does not concern national defense or includes medical secrets.
