Résumé

In order to better estimate the consequences of an accidental release of uranium hexafluoride (UF6), product used in some nuclear facilities, IRSN has performed an experimental and numerical study on heavy gas dispersion in a ventilated room. Indeed, the high density of UF6 gas (12) governs its dispersion in the room where the release occurs, and thus its hydrolysis with ambient steam. This study was divided in two parts; the first one consisted on the comparison between computational code and experimental results for different tests of injection of a large quantity of a heavy tracer gas, sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), inside two ventilated rooms of different sizes. As the comparison was quite satisfactory, a second part was performed consisting on computations of UF6 gas dispersion and hydrolysis in a ventilated room. The aim was to highlight the parameters influencing the gas behaviour; injection type was the most important one.
