Working together will enable the two partners to pool their expertise in explosives science, obtain new experimental data, expand their knowledge and increase their international profile. IRSN aims to deepen its research on detonation of explosives and measurement of their effects on different structures.
IRSN has just signed a collaboration agreement with the French-German Research Institute of Saint-Louis (ISL), which is renowned for its expertise in both explosives science and ballistic protection. The ISL also maintains significant human and experimental resources devoted to protection technologies.
Working together will enable the two partners to pool their expertise in explosives science, obtain new experimental data, expand their knowledge and increase their international profile in the
fields concerned. With this in mind, IRSN and the ISL have scheduled joint presentations at specialist conferences as of 2018.
Under its nuclear security activities, IRSN runs programs on the detonation of explosives or explosions in semi-confined environments and the measurement of their effects on different structures. Since 2006, IRSN is performing test campaigns on blast waves and explosions in semi-confined environments (in French) using an experimental platform at the University of Orléans.
