On Thursday, 3rd September 2020, the Director General of IRSN held an exchange with the President of the Federal Office of Radiological Protection (BfS), Inge Paulini, on current issues in radiation protection. This exchange followed the BfS President's visit to IRSN in Fontenay-aux-Roses in 2018. The initially planned visit of Jean-Christophe Niel and the IRSN delegation to the BfS site near Berlin was carried out by videoconference due to the current public health situation.

Presentations by IRSN and BfS experts in the fields of health, environment and crisis preparedness made it possible, on one hand, to highlight the numerous joint projects carried out and, on the other hand, to identify opportunities for strengthening collaboration between the two institutes. It notably concern internal dosimetry, "citizen science", stakeholder involvement, the study of low doses and various topics related to crisis. These various points will be the subject of exchanges between experts from the two institutes in the coming months.
IRSN and BfS have also agreed to collaborate closely in the implementation of the "Partnership" that will soon succeed  the EJP CONCERT, in order to promote a common vision of radiation protection issues, in conjunction with the European Commission.
In conclusion, the Director General and the President of the BfS expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the collaboration between the two institutes. They wished to intensify the frequency of their meetings and it was agreed that the Director General would visit the BfS headquarters in Berlin as soon as the health situation allows it.
